Army Moments

The Sri Lanka Army Buddhist Association, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) and the Sri Lanka National Guard, celebrated Poson Poya Day by organising a ‘Seela Samadi’ programme at Sri Maha Bodhirajaramaya, Panagoda, on 10 June 2025 under the guidance of Major General D.K.S.K Dolage USP nps psc, Commandant of SLAVF.

In line with Poson Poya Day, the Regimental Centre of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) organised a Manioc Dansala on 10 June 2025 at the Rangiri Dambulu Rajamaha Viharaya premises, under the guidance of Major General A.H.A.D Ariyasena RWP RSP USP psc ptsc, Colonel of the Regiment, MIR.

In line with Poson Poya Day, the troops of Security Force Headquarters (Central) organised a Samahan Dansala on 11 June 2025 in front of the Security Force Headquarters (Central) premises, under the guidance of Major General K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP, the Commander, Security Forces (Central).

12 Infantry Division bids farewell to Major General W.S.N Hemarathna RWP RSP psc, the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC), on 04 June 2025, at the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters.

Brigadier C.P. Wickramarathne RSP USP assumed duties as the 14th Commandant of the Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT) on 28 May 2025 during a simple ceremony held at the CAVT premises.

Saranath College, Kuliyapitiya, held a special felicitation ceremony on 15 May 2025 to honour Major General B.M.R.J Bandara, Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) and a distinguished old boy of the school, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and continued service to the nation.

‘Security Forces (Wanni) Commander’s Challenge Trophy Volleyball – 2025’ tournament was successfully concluded on 04 June 2025 at the Mannar Urban Council Indoor Stadium. Preliminary matches took place on 20 May 2025.

To mark World Environment Day on 05 June 2025, all Army establishments islandwide contributed to environmental conservation efforts by planting saplings in their respective premises, in line with the global theme ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.

A fire erupted on 04 June 2025 at the Devmini Timber Store near Bokundara Junction in Piliyandala. Upon receiving the alert, troops from the 5 Sri Lanka Engineer Regiment and the 1 Sri Lanka Ordnance Corps were immediately deployed to assist.

Colonel R.M. Balasuriya USP assumed duties as the Officiating Director, Directorate of Internal Audit of the Sri Lanka Army during a formal ceremony held at the Army Headquarters on 4 June 2025.
