New Commander - Security Forces (Central) Assumes Duties
Major General B.G.S. Fernando USP Hdmc psc of the Sri Lanka Artillery assumed duties as the 24th Commander of the Security Force Headquarters (Central) on 05 June 2026 in accordance with religious observances.
Prior to his appointment, the Senior Officer served as the Military Secretary at Army Headquarters and presently holds the appointment of Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police.
Upon arrival at the Security Force Headquarters (Central), the newly appointed Commander, Headquarters (Central), was accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour by troops of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, in keeping with Sri Lanka Army traditions. Following multi-religious blessings, the Senior Officer formally assumed duties by symbolically signing the official document at an auspicious time.
Marking the commencement of his tenure, the new Commander, Security Force Headquarters (Central), planted a sapling within the headquarters premises and subsequently posed for a group photograph with Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.
Addressing the Officers and troops, the Commander emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism in the discharge of duties while upholding the dignity and reputation of the Sri Lanka Army. He further highlighted the adverse consequences of drug abuse, online gambling, illegal financial activities, and the misuse of social media, stressing their detrimental impact on both individual lives and society.
The day's proceedings concluded with the customary All Ranks Tea during which the Commander engaged in cordial interactions with All Ranks.The occasion was attended by General Officers Commandings, the Logistics Command (Central), Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks.
