    New Year Spirits Bring Army Personnel Together During Customary Festivities

    Bringing the annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year spirits into the country’s largest service provider, the Sri Lanka Army, hundreds of Army personnel serving the Army Headquarters at Sri Jayawardenepura on Monday (10 April) joined hands together with one another and enjoyed typical festivities and traditional games during a New Year festival at Panagoda Army Cantonment. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army attaching importance to the customary feature graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) and a host of Officers.

    Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment (GR), together with Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) who is also the Chairperson of GR Seva Vanitha Branch (GR-SVB) Friday (7) morning inaugurated the Gajaba Regiment Seva Vanitha New Year fair at GR Regimental Headquarters in Saliyapura. The New Year fair, organized by GR-SVB ladies with the support of GR troops under the guidance of the Chairperson of the GR-SVB in consultation with Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu had a wide variety of essential commodities, needed for the forthcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival.

    Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) as the day's Chief Guest was invited to inaugurate two new accommodation facilities at the SLNG Regimental HQ Battalion premises at Heraliyawala, Kurunegala this morning (6 April 2023). Brigadier H.A Keerthinatha RSP KSP psc, SLNG Centre Commandant warmly welcomed the Commander of the Army on his arrival at the camp premises after a ceremonial Guard Turnout saluted him at the entrance in accordance with military formalities.

    As the second segment of the itinerary, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage during his visit to the East took time off to see the Army Farm at Galkanda and inspected the egg production process, being carried out under the supervision of the 3 (V) Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock (SLACAL).     School Students Thrilled to Watch Army Drill and Pace Stick Competition Awarding Ceremony at Panagoda

    The awarding ceremony of the Army Inter Regiment Drill and Pace Stick Competition - 2022 took place this afternoon (14 Tuesday) at Panagoda Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Parade Square, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The colourful drill and band squads of different regiments rending the air with soothing melodies added grandeur and pride to the occasion as the large crowd of spectators and distinguished guests remained glued to the sequence of the ceremony’s proceedings.
