Major General W.S.N Hemarathna RWP RSP psc, of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, assumed duties as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 12 Infantry Division amidst religious blessings and military formalities at the 12 Infantry Division on 15th January 2025.
Upon arrival, the newly appointed GOC was accorded a Guard Turnout, followed by a Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the 20th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
In his new office, the GOC symbolically signed an official document to mark the assumption of his duties amidst the chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by the Maha Sangha. Later, the GOC planted a sandalwood sapling and posed for group photographs.
Thereafter, the newly appointed GOC addressed the troops, highlighting his vision for the division’s future, personal values, comradeship, and the importance of maintaining a high level of discipline among Officers and Other Ranks.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the day's event.
