Major General J.K.R Jayakody RWP USP, Deputy Commander, Security Force Headquarters (West) and Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 12 December 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 34 years.
Brief profile of the retiring senior officer:
Major General J.K.R Jayakody RWP USP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet for Intake 35 on 02 January 1991. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on 29 August 1992. After steadily elevating through subsequent ranks during his service, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 16 July 2024. The senior officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 24 December 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of retirement, he was serving as Deputy Commander, Security Force Headquarters (West) and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
Throughout his illustrious military career, the senior officer held numerous key appointments. He served as Platoon Commander of the 6th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Adjutant of the 12th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Officer Commanding of the 6th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Officer Commanding of the 12th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, General Staff Officer 2 (Training) of the Infantry Training Centre, Minneriya, Officer Commanding of the 4th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Chief Instructor of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Training Centre, Brigade Major of Headquarters, 522 Infantry Brigade, General Staff Officer 2 of the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, General Staff Officer 2 of the Directorate of Training, Army Headquarters, Officer Commanding of the Army Commanders Security Unit (ACSU), Army Headquarters, Officiating Commanding Officer of the 3rd Reinforcement (RFT) Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Commanding Officer of the 26th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
He also served as Staff Officer 1 of the Directorate of Movement, Army Headquarters, General Staff Officer 1 (Coordinating) of the Security Force Headquarters (Mullaitivu), Staff Officer 1 of the Mihindu Seth Medura, Colonel (General Staff) of the Headquarters 52 Infantry Division, Colonel (Quarter Master General) of the Quarter Master General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Officiating Commander of the 211 Infantry Brigade, Commander of the 553 Infantry Brigade, Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Deputy General Officer Commanding of the Headquarters 64 Infantry Division, General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division, Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Deputy Commander of the Security Force Headquarters (West).
In recognition of his dedicated and exemplary service, he was awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and the Utthama Seva Padakkama (USP).
The senior officer successfully completed the Regimental Signal Officers’ Course, Artillery Observation Course, Law of Armed Conflict and Human Rights Course, Battalion Support Weapons Officers’ Course, Junior Staff Course, General Information Technology Skills Course, Potential Observers and Staff Officers Course, International Humanitarian Law Instructors Course (conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross, Sri Lanka) and the General Information Technology Skills Course (conducted by the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy).
He also attended several overseas courses, including the Officers’ Physical Training Course – Pakistan, Para Gliding Course – Pakistan, Young Officers’ Tactical Course – Pakistan, Junior Command Course – India, Military Induction Training Course – Haiti and Senior Command Course – India.
He further enhanced his professional qualifications by completing the Diploma Course in English (conducted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy), the Diploma in Senior Level Defence Management at Devi Ahilya University, India, and the Sri Lanka Computer Driving Licence issued by the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority.
