Major General K.A.D.S.K Dharmasena RWP was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 24 October 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years. The senior officer sustained visual impairment during military operations in the year 2000, has continued to serve with dedication and resilience, setting an inspiring example of commitment and courage to all ranks of the Army.
Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:
Major General K.A.D.S.K Dharmasena RWP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 09 May 1991 under intake SC 2. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on 06 June 1992. Having been steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of his service, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2025. The senior officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 01 November 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age.
During his illustrious career, he held a number of key appointments including Troop Leader, 3rd Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Platoon Commander, 1st Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Platoon Commander, 5th (Volunteer) Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Troop Leader, ‘A’ Squadron, 3rd Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Instructor, Armoured Corps Training Centre, Troop Leader, ‘A’ Squadron - 5th Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Assistant Adjutant, 5th Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Technical Adjutant, 5th Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Adjutant, 5th Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officer Commanding, ‘C’ Squadron, 5th Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officer Commanding, Reinforcement Squadron, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Staff Officer 1, Headquarters, Armoured Brigade.
In recognition of his committed and valiant service to the Sri Lanka Army, he was awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP).
He successfully completed the local Mechanical Transport Officers Course and the overseas Young Officers’ (Armour) Course in Pakistan.
He has been married to Mrs. Tharangani Dharmasena, a remarkable lady who chose to stand by him in marriage with full awareness of his visual impairment, exemplifying immense courage, and sacrifice.
