Army Chief Commends the Notable Service of Retiring Major General

Major General L.C.K Pathirana RSP Hdmc IG, accompanied by his family members, visited the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 14th February 2025, ahead of his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army.

During the meeting, the Army Chief highly appreciated the Senior Officer’s steadfast dedication and outstanding service, both during the war against terrorism and in the post-war era as a gunner Officer. He also acknowledged the significant contributions made by his family in supporting him throughout his career.

Expressing his gratitude, Major General L.C.K Pathirana RSP Hdmc IG conveyed his sincere appreciation for the guidance and support extended by the Army Chief throughout his tenure. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to the retiring Senior Officer as a token of appreciation, along with gifts for his family.

Major General L.C.K Pathirana RSP Hdmc IG enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet to the Intake KDA 9 on 17 November 1991. Upon successfully completing military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, and General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Artillery on 22 November 1993. Rising through the ranks during his tenure, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 18 January 2025. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 17 February 2025, upon reaching the age of 55. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Director General (Administration) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS).

Throughout his career, he has held numerous key appointments, including Troop Commander of 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery (Gajasinghepura), Troop Commander of 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery (Mannar), Battery Captain of 25th Battery in 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Commander at Headquarters of 212 Infantry Brigade, Acting Battery Commander of 25th Battery in 7th Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Adjutant of 8th Medium Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Commander of 24th Battery in 8th Medium Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Battery Commander of 83rd Battery in 8th Medium Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Artillery Coordinator at Headquarters of 22 Infantry Division, Troop Commander of Training Wing in the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy, Battery Commander of Headquarters 571 Infantry Brigade, Overlooking Commanding Officer of 15th Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Second-in-Command of 15th Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, Staff Officer 2 (Administration) of Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Artillery, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) at Headquarters of 68 Infantry Division, Counter Bombardment Officer at Headquarters of Artillery Brigade, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) at Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Artillery, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) at Headquarters of 62 Infantry Division, Commanding Officer of 7th Light Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) at Headquarters of 53 Infantry Division, Officiating Commandant of School of Artillery, Brigadier (Commander’s Secretariat) at Commander’s Secretariat in Army Headquarters, Director (Administration) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS), and Director General (Administration) at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS).

In recognition of his bravery in combat, the Senior Officer has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP).

During his renowned military career, he has completed various local and international training courses, including the Junior Command Course, Basic Parachute Course, Potential Military Observers and Staff Officers Course, and the Personal Security Officers cum Liaison Officers Course for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2013 in Sri Lanka. He has also attended the Young Officers’ (Artillery) Course in Pakistan, Mid-Career Course in Pakistan, Long Gunnery Staff Course (Air Defence) in India, Artillery Battalion Commander’s Course in China, and the Higher Defence Management Course in India.

Additionally, the Senior Officer has pursued higher education, obtaining an Advanced Course in Management at the All India Management Association (AIMA) in India, a Diploma in Gunnery from the School of Artillery in Pakistan, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of Peradeniya, a Bachelor of Arts (Defence Studies) from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy, a Master of Management Studies from Osmania University in India, and a Master of Science in Air Defence and Radar Technology from the Army Air Defence College in India.
