Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army, presented floral offerings and paid his respects to the sacred relics of the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple on Navam Full Moon Poya Day (12 February), during the final Navam Perahera. The annual procession, held for the 45th consecutive year, commenced following preliminary religious rituals and the invocation of blessings.
As the Chief Guest, Honourable Professor Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, ceremonially placed the sacred relic casket on the tusker.
The event was graced by past Presidents, Ministers, and other dignitaries who joined the inaugural proceedings of the final procession.
This year’s Navam Perahera was organised under the guidance of the Maha Sangha, led by Venerable Dr Kirinde Assaji Thero, Viharadhikari of Gangaramaya Temple.
