Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG, Commander of the Army, addressed a representative gathering of more than 150 Senior Officers on Thursday (02) afternoon, after assuming office as the Army Chief.
During his address, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to past Commanders and Senior Officers for their invaluable guidance throughout his career. He emphasised the collective duty to safeguard the nation and ensure its security, while paying tribute to the sacrifices of Fallen War Heroes who laid down their lives for a peaceful Sri Lanka.
The Army Chief shared his vision of transforming the Sri Lanka Army into a “Soldier-Centred Organisation”. He outlined plans to enhance soldiers' skills through targeted training programmes and to provide essential equipment to support their operational readiness. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of adhering to the Army’s core values; Patriotism, Discipline, Loyalty, Integrity, Honour, Knowledge, Courage, Valour, Unity, and Commitment, which serve as the foundation for discipline, integrity, and service.
The Commander highlighted the urgent need to address equipment requirements while ensuring the protection and longevity of the resources. He stressed the importance of maintaining a technically proficient and well-equipped force.
Furthermore, he advised Officers to prioritise the welfare of their subordinates by addressing basic needs, including health and hygiene. The Commander further encouraged a proactive approach to office management and meticulous documentation practices, emphasising transparency and accountability.
The Army Chief, in his address, also stressed the necessity of upholding strict disciplinary standards within the Army. He called on Officers to actively contribute to the government’s ‘Beautiful Life and Clean Sri Lanka’ project.
In conclusion, the Commander reminded Officers of their obligation to embody courage, knowledge, dedication, and commitment. He urged them to meet the expectations of the Nation, the organisation, and their professional responsibilities with unwavering resolve.
Principal Staff Officers, Directors, Field Commanders, and Senior Officers participated in the event.
