38th Remembrance of Aranthalawa Massacre

The 38th remembrance of the Aranthalawa massacre was solemnly commemorated on 2 June 2025 at the Aranthalawa International Buddhist Center. The massacre, which occurred on 2 June 1987 in Ampara District, claimed the lives of 33 Buddhist monks and four civilians at the hands of the LTTE.

The ceremony was held under the guidance of Venerable Dr. Kiridiwela Sri Sumanarathana Thero, with the participation of Major General P.R. Pathiravithana, USAWC psc, Commander Security Forces (East), the General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, and several dignitaries.

Religious observances were conducted in memory of the victims and a foundation stone was laid for a new building near the monument in remembrance of victims.
