Major General C.S. Thibbotuge was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 17 March 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 34 years.
Brief Profile of the Retiring Senior Officer:
Major General C.S. Thibbotuge enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Intake KDA - 09 on 22 November 1991. Upon successful completion of military training at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy, Ratmalana and the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on 22 November 1993.
By steadily elevating through the ranks during his service, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2025. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 22 March 2026 upon reaching 55 years of age.
Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer has held numerous key appointments. He has served as Platoon Commander of the 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Officer Commanding of the Rear Headquarters of the 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Intelligence Officer of the 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Motor Transport Officer of the 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Officer Commanding of the 10th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
He has also held appointments as Staff Officer 3 at Headquarters, 11 Infantry Division, Officer in Charge of the Deposit Membership Branch of the Army Benevolent Fund, Staff Officer 2 at the 3 Regiment Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, Staff Officer 2 at the Directorate of Welfare at Army Headquarters, Staff Officer 2 (Legal) at the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Adjutant of the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Brigade Major of Headquarters, 112 Infantry Brigade.
In addition, he has served as Staff Officer 1 at Headquarters, Forward Maintenance Area (East), Staff Officer 1 at the Quarter Master General’s Branch at Army Headquarters, Staff Officer 1 (Administration and Quartering) at Headquarters, 21 Infantry Division, Head of Human Resources of the Laya Chain of Hotels at the Directorate of Welfare at Army Headquarters, Factory Manager of Factory Number 02 of Ranaviru Apparel at Alawwa, Colonel (Welfare) at the Directorate of Veterans Affairs at Army Headquarters, Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps, Commandant of Abhimansala 3, Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, and Director General Administration of the University Hospital, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
The Senior Officer has successfully completed professional military courses, including the Motor Transport Officers Course and the Unit Intelligence Officers Course.
He has also attended several overseas courses, including the Young Officers’ Course in China and the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Course in Bangladesh.
In addition to his military qualifications, the Senior Officer has obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Defence Studies from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy and a Certificate in Garment Production Management issued by the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel.
