Major General K.G.M.N. Seneviratne USP, Director General Personnel Administration, Army Headquarters, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 05 February 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army following a distinguished military career spanning over 33 years.
Brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:
Major General K.G.M.N. Seneviratne USP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet to Intake KDA 10 on 08 November 1992. Upon successful completion of military training at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy - Ratmalana and the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on 14 December 1994. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of the span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 15 December 2025. The Senior Officer retires from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 11 February 2026 on reaching 55 years of age. At the time of retirement, he holds the appointment of Director General Personnel Administration, Army Headquarters.
Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer held numerous key appointments. He served as the Troop Leader of Alpha Squadron in the 5th Reconnaissance Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Aide-de-Camp to Major General N.R Marambe (Retd) RWP RSP USP psc, Officer Commanding at Charlie Squadron in 6 (Reinforcement) Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, General Staff Officer 2 of the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officer Commanding at Headquarters Squadron in the 8th (Reinforcement) Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Second-in-Command of 8 (Reinforcement) Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Regimental Adjutant at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Officiating Staff Officer 1 (Administration) at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Staff Officer 1 (Volunteer) of Military Secretary’s Branch at Army Headquarters, Military Observer at United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) at Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Commanding Officer of 6 (Reinforcement) Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Commanding Officer at 3 Armoured Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.
He also served as the Staff Officer 1 (Administration) at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, General Staff Officer 1 (Operations) at Headquarters of 66 Infantry Division, Director of Training of the Multipurpose Development Task Force, Deputy Centre Commandant at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Commander of 661 Infantry Brigade, Commander of 121 Infantry Brigade, Centre Commandant at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Director General Personnel Administration at Army Headquarters.
In recognition of his dedicated and exemplary service, he was awarded the Uththama Seva Padakkama.
The Senior Officer successfully completed several professional military courses. These included the Potential Observer and Staff Officers Course, the United Nations Logistics Officers' Course, the Human Rights Instructor Training Course and the Law of Armed Conflict Instructors’ Training Course.
He also attended a number of overseas courses. These included the Young Officers (Armour) Course in India, the Automotive Instructor Course in India, the Junior Staff (Linked with Mid-Career) Course in Pakistan, the Combat Team Commanders Course in India and the Combat Group Commanders Course in India.
In addition to his military qualifications, the Senior Officer obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Defence Studies) at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy in Rathmalana and a Master of Conflict and Peace Studies at Colombo University.
