Army Chief Attends 41st Anniversary Pirith Chanting Ceremony of GR

The Gajaba Regiment (GR) celebrated its 41st anniversary at the "Home of Keterians" in Saliyapura, Anuradhapura, with a series of events from 13 - 14 October 2024.

he all-night 'Pirith' chanting ceremony was held invoking blessings for the Regiment and honouring its fallen War Heroes, and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army graced this significant occasion. The ceremony was marked by a vibrant procession of traditional dancers, carrying sacred relic casket, and the revered book of old scriptures (Pirivana Potha), leading the Maha Sangha to the octagonal 'Pirith Mandapaya' where the chanting commenced. The senior monk delivered an oration, highlighting the invaluable role of the Army's leadership as well as the contributions of the Gajaba Regiment, particularly during critical periods of the Nation’s history.

During his visit, the Army Chief interacted with relatives of the fallen War Heroes and conveyed his respectful sentiments for them.

Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B. Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and their family members also participated in the occasion.
