Troops of the 54 Infantry Division bade farewell to the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General G.W.A Seneviratne USP psc during a formal ceremony, rich with military traditions on Wednesday (15 Nov) at the 54 Infantry Division premises in Mannar.

On arrival, the outgoing GOC was accorded a Guard Turnout at the camp entrance. As the first segment of the day’s proceedings, he paid a floral tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the War Heroes’ monument in the premises.

Afterwards, he was invited to take the salute of the Guard of Honour before he placed his signature in an official document signifying the relinquishment of his duties at the office. Adding memories to the day, he was invited to pose for a few photographs with the staff before addressing All Ranks in the compound and thanked them for their generous assistance and support extended to him during his tenure. Towards the end of the troop address, he was awarded special mementoes by the 54 Infantry Division under command Brigades and Battalions before he interacted with the troops during a formal all rank tea.

At the end of the day, a farewell dinner was hosted in honour for the outgoing General Officer Commanding at the Officers’ Mess. Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks also took part in the day’s programme.
