Malaysian biking community, launching its 'First of its Kind' 14-day long familiarization tour of Sri Lanka at the Galadari Hotel premises Sunday (23) morning, honoured the Sri Lanka Army by inviting the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake to flag off the ride as the Chief Guest.
The Malaysian convoy of riders is to continue its ride via Ginigathhena, Nuwara Eliya, Walapane, Kandy, Dambulla, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, Jaffna, Point Pedro, Kilinochchi, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Puttalam before their return to Colombo on 1 April 2014.
This Friendship Bike Tour, according to its organizers, aims to keep Malaysians informed of the true ground realities of Sri Lanka against vicious and false Malaysian Media exposures, generally propagated by elements with vested interests, sponsor a recognized educational welfare project in Sri Lanka and experience the ' TRUE' Sri Lanka with impromptu stops, etc at interesting spots for photographing and interacting with farmers and school children.
The convoy, first of its kind in Sri Lanka comprises nine Malaysian big bikers and two accompanying organizers and the project has received the blessings of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development through coordination of the 'Buzzword Sdn Bhd' of Malaysia.
An Army big motorbike, as veterans in the field of motor biking, led the tour, followed by visiting riders while symbolically adding significance to the event. This was the first time an organized overseas organization launched a project of this nature in Sri Lanka. The Chief Guest was introduced to the riders by the Tour Coordinator before the ride began.
The Chief Rider from Malaysia presented token mementos to Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake and Major General Udaya Perera, one of the chief coordinators of the project in appreciation of their support to it.
Lieutenant General Ratnayake and Mr T. L Jayawardena, Director and Tour Coordinator, Buzzword joined the kick off with flags of both Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
