Hindu 'Pooja' Blesses Army Anniversary

 

The ‘Abishekam’ Pooja of Hindu tradition on Tuesday (8) invoked blessings on the forthcoming 64th Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) during a special ceremony, attended by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.

The ‘AbishekamPooja at Sri Ponnambalam Vaneshwarar Kovil, Colombo 13, organized by Sri Lanka Army Hindu Association, symbolically blessed the Army Flag after taking it into the inner chamber of the Kovil amidst religious rites and rituals.   

During the special Pooja, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army respectfully presented the Army flag for blessings to the chief priest (Kurukkal) in accordance with Hindu tradition. The whole ceremony was performed by a ten-member team of Hindu priests.

In symbolic recognition of the temple’s long service to the Hindu community and the Army, Lieutenant General Ratnayake before his exit from the premises, made a monetary donation towards the Kovil Development Fund.  

This special ceremony of Hindu religious rites and rituals was coordinated by the Army Hindu Association, in consultation with the Chief Priest, Kurukkal Chandrakanthan at this ancient temple. Major General A. W. J. Crishanthe De Silva, Chief of Staff and Brigadier R. Rathnasingham, Chairman, Army Hindu Association were also present.          

Deputy Chief of Staff, senior officers and a representative gathering of all regiments and formations attended the special Pooja.
