The Army team contested for the Clifford Cup in the recent Amateur Boxing tournament at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium did fairly well and secured the overall third place, winning one Championship, 4 runners-up slots and the third place in 9 weight categories.
The Army team bagged 25 points in total. Similarly, Army woman boxers in the amateur category secured one Championship in one weight category, one runners-up in one weight category and two third places in two weight categories.
Lance Corporal A.R.B.E Thilakaratne of 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) under 91 kg (more) category won the Championship while in the women’s category, Woman Soldier Private T.M. Weerasinghe of 3 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) secured the Championship in 81 kg (less) category.
