GIVING prominence and pride of place to the traditional Sinhala and Tamil folk dances, games and cultural events, a specially organized Sinhala-Hindu New Year festival took place within the historic boundaries of the Jaffna Fort on New Year day (April 14).
The event, seen as a connecting bridge between the North and the South was covered by ITN throughout the day. Marathon races drew huge enthusiasm among the youth who flocked there in their thousands. Nestomalt, the famous Nestle Company Limited sponsored gifts and certificates given away among the winners. Major General M. Haturusinghe, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna and Mr K. Ganesh, District Secretary for Jaffna, gave away those gifts to the winners. 52 Division Commander and many senior officers attended the festival.
