Batticaloa Students on Picnic to Hambantota and Kataragama

40 STUDENTS from Kondachchimadam Sri Vinayagar Maha Vidyalaya and Kurumancheri Shiva Shakthi Maha Vidyalaya in Batticaloa went on an educational tour to Hambantota and Kataragama areas in the south following an initiative taken by 234 Brigade Headquarters with the support of the Civil Coordinating Officer Lieutenant Colonel T.M.S Tennakoon for the area. Army troops helped in organizing the tour.

 In addition, teachers and parents of those students participated in this three-day tour between 4th - 6th December 2009.  Those students visited Mahiyangana Raja Maha Vihara, Mahiyangana Saman Devala, Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara, Kataragama Kiri Vehera, Historic Kataragama Devala, Kataragama Sri Lakshmi Devala, Situlpauwwa Rajamaha Vihara, Hambantota saltern, Randenigala Reservoir and the construction work of the new Hambantota port. 

 Ven Pimbure Dharmadeva Nayaka Thero at Tissamaharama Sandagiri Vihara provided food and accommodation to the students and explained the historical importance and other details related to the area. Sariram Institute of Thalamkuda, Batticaloa donated Rs. 10,000/= for distribution among students and parents as part of the expenses for the tour while managers of Subaraj Hotel and Beach View Hotel in Batticaloa offered biscuits, refreshments and water bottles for participants on the tour.
