    Eight officers and eighty seven other ranks of the Army's elite Special Forces (SF) who followed the intensive eight-month long training Course No 45 at Maduruoya SF Training School passed out Friday (4) morning in a glittering ceremony, graced by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the Chief Guest.

  • Jaffna to be Promoted as a Tourist Destination

    THE government hopes to promote war-torn Jaffna as a tourist destination soon. Tourism Promotion Minister Faizer Mustapha speaking to Daily Mirror at the launch of the Hikkaduwa beach festival this evening said that Jaffna will be marketed for its diversity and not as a former war zone. “We would like to have events in Jaffna and the East. We would not like to market Jaffna as a war zone, but to market Jaffna as another province in Sri Lanka which offers diversity. People in that area suffered due to terrorism and will like to move away from that part of history,” the Minister said.

  • Kohonawela Village Receives A Helping Hand

    Soldiers of 112 Brigade under 11 Division in Badulla district extended their helping hand to ease the difficulties faced by the Kohonawela villagers in Passara, Madolsima area recently (11) at a simple ceremony held at Kohonawela temple premises. Items worth of Rs 1 Million, including agricultural equipment, water pumps, dry ration parcels, school stationeries, etc. were distributed among the villagers. Financial assistance for this noble cause was given by ‘The Buddhist’ Television Channel.

    The closing ceremony of the 52nd Inter Regiment Athletics Championship of the Army and award of trophies to winners, took place at the Sugathadasa National Stadium Thursday (27) evening during a grand and wonderful ceremony. Organized by the Army Athletics Committee, chaired by Major General Amal Karunasekara, the closing ceremony was graced by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva as the Chief Guest.
