  • Army Seva Vanitha Showers War Heroes & Their Families with Millions Worth Gifts

    A wide assortment of gifts, including deeds for blocks of land and new houses, financial grants for completion of partly-built houses or for renovations, artificial hands and legs, wheelchairs and automatic chairs, laptops and computers, medical appliances, scholarship grants, medicine, sports accessories, etc, valued over Rs 18 million, were awarded to 759 War Heroes, War Hero families, ‘Abimansal’ (1, 2 and 3) and ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ inmates, following initiatives, taken by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the Army Headquarters on Thursday (17) as the Phase - 2 of the project.

  • Chinese National Defence Minister Calls on HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa after Army Salute

    General Liang Guanglie, State Councillor and Minister of National Defence of People’s Republic of China (PRC) who is now in Sri Lanka on a five day official visit paid a courtesy call on HE President, Mahinda Rajapaksa. The visiting Chinese Minister of National Defence was warmly welcomed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees. Exchange of mementos and posing for a group photo took place before the end of the meeting.
  • Army Swimmers Shine in Open Swimming Competition

    THE 2-MILE OPEN swimming competition organized by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union at Mount Lavinia beach last Sunday (7) offered major winning slots to Army swimmers. Overall Team Championship, Best Team among tri-services and the Police, HPN Challenge Trophy and Best Disabled Swimmer Category were clinched by Army Swimming Team Members.

    The newly appointed 17th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral D. W. A. S. Dissanayake WV, RSP, VSV, USP, ndc paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Tuesday (18), a few hours after he met the Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Ministry of Defence.

  • Basket Ball Becoming Popular Among Soldiers in Wanni

    Security Force Headquarters Wanni’s (SFHQ-W) 21 Division basket ball players after a very close contest on the final day of the Inter Divisional Basket Ball Championship 2014, defeating their 54 Division counterparts, carried away the 2014 Championship on Tuesday (16). A large gathering of spectators, including Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W as the Chief Guest for the finals, watched the contest.
  • 'Abimansala' Work in Full Swing

    THE foundation erecting one of the ‘Abimansala’ (Wellness Resort) buildings at Anuradhapura is fast nearing completion as work is now in full swing. Soldiers attached to Corps of Engineer Services have already undertaken ground preparations and foundation-laying work at ‘Abimansala’ at Anuradhapura after the foundation-laying stone was laid by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as recent as 15th  May 2010.
