The Security Force HQ- Jaffna, enthusiastic in supporting the livelihood of Jaffna civilians, affected largely due to prevailing economic constraints while continuing its community-oriented projects launched several multifaceted services, valued at about Rs 1.8 million after inviting beneficiaries to the Iyakkachchi Government's Tamil Mixed School (GMTS) premises on Sunday (20).
The project included the distribution of 100 dry ration packs with nutrients to pregnant women and other low-income group families, gifting of 100 English and Tamil dictionaries to students, free supply of 90 accessories and equipment to needy peasants for agricultural purposes and award of 20 school bags with stationery to deserving students.
Mr Prasad Lokubalasuriya under his ‘ Arunalu’ Programme Stage -3, supported jointly by Mrs. Samanthi Wijewardena , Mr Thilina Mendis , Mr Chathu Kahawala, Mr Niyomal Janapriya, Miss Dilanthi Gunarathne , Mr Dinesh Gayan and Mr Kumudu Gunawardena sponsored the entire project.
Brigadier Wijayanath Jayaweera, Commander of the 552 Infantry Brigade on a conceptual notion of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division organized the project with his 552 Infantry Brigade troops under the 55 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna under the guidelines given by the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.
1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel A.C.R Thilakaratne and the Commanding Officer, 23 Gemunu Watch Major R.M.R.B Rathnayake were instrumental in making the project a success.
At the end of the humanitarian project, students at Iyyakachchi Government's Tamil Mixed School (GMTS) and their performing band with its dancers showcased their aesthetic skills and entertained the gathering
