To coincide with the closing ceremony of the Battalion Training of 1 Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps troops at Battalion Training School in Katukeliyawa, Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces - West visited the school compound on Friday (4).
The West Commander was warmly welcomed to the school premises by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, along with the Commander of the 612 Brigade and the Chief Instructor of the School. Subsequently, the Chief Instructor of the training school introduced the instructors of the school to the visiting Commander at the location.
Thereafter, the Commander Security Forces - West inspected the surroundings of the camp, the welfare of the instructors and the students, and several key places at the school and discussed possibilities for improvement of infrastructure facilities in the future.
A few minutes later, the West Commander and other participants attended a comprehensive briefing on the role and tasks of the Battalion Training School, which was conducted by the Chief Instructor. Subsequently, addressing the instructors, the West Commander emphasized several key factors, including the method of instruction, instructor qualities, and the necessity of improving the constant training which paves the path to develop the soldiers’ co - competencies to develop the skills of performing multiple tasks in order to face future security challenges of the nation. Afterwards, the West Commander was awarded a memento by the Chief Instructor on behalf of the instructor panel of the Battalion Training School - Katukeliyawa.
A demonstration on crowd disposal conducted by the Officers and Other Ranks of 1 Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps was also staged before he attended the final presentation of the trained members of the 1 SLAPC at the lecture hall. A brief address followed.
Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne, Brigadier General Staff, Colonel General Staff and several Staff Officers of the Security Forces Headquarters - West also accompanied the West Commander during the visit.
