Jaffna's Inter Club Soccer Tournament Finals Won by Kalaimathi Sports Club

The Inter Club Soccer Tournament, organized by the 551 Brigade of the 55 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna, covering Karaveddi area and Point Pedro in the Divisional Secretariat Division and competed by eight civil clubs got underway during 12 - 22 October under the close supervision of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division in accordance with guidelines given by Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.

The tournament staged for 'Major General Ravi Ratnasingham Challenge Trophy -2022' plus a cash gift of Rs 100,000 was won by soccer players in the Jaffna-based Kalaimathi Sports Club during the finals.

The Commander, Security Forces -Jaffna as the Chief Guest attended the final encounter of the tournament on 25 October at the Collin's Grounds, Nelliady. Mr Joseph Iruthayarajah, Mayor of Point Pedro graced as the Guest of Honour. Eight leading teams under the Vadamarachchi Football League took part in the tournament on knock-out basis.

In the closely-fought final encounter, players in the Sivananthan Sports club clinched the runner-up slot and carried the 'Vish Nadarajah Trophy' plus a gift of Rs 50,000 in cash. Both winners and runners-up teams were awarded certificates and medals while other participating teams were also awarded Rs 10,000 each plus certificates.

Brigadier Chinthaka Wickramasinghe, Commander 551 Brigade coordinated the conduct of the tournament with the support of Major Ramya Kumara, Commanding Officer, 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry. The tournament was sponsored jointly by Major General (Retd) Ravi Ratnasingham and Mr Vish Nadarajah. It was co-sponsored by Pepsi.

Divisional Secretaries, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area -North, General Officers Commandings of 55 and 51 Divisions, Senior Officers, 551, 552 and 553 Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, and a gathering of civil invitees witnessed the finals and joined the awarding ceremony.

A large gathering of soccer fans watched the finals and the tournament.
