'Swift & Sure' SLSC Communicators of the Army Turn 79 Years

The "Swift and Sure" Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), communication and network experts, who unfailingly operate and defend the Army communications and computer systems round the clock celebrated its 79th Anniversary on a grand scale, giving pride of place to formal ceremonials at the SLSC Regimental HQ in Panagoda on Wednesday (19).

The smart and colour-rich Guard Turnout as the first segment of the day's anniversary itinerary saluted the SLSC's Colonel Commandant and Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army, Major General Lalith Herath as he arrived at the main gate where Brigadier Sudantha Fonseka, SLSC Centre Commandant formally welcomed the day's Chief Guest.

Elsewhere at the parade square was the climax of the day's ceremonials, the anniversary Guard of Honour, presented to the SLSC Colonel Commandant. The Colonel Commandant, together with the parade commander after a while reviewed the landmark Regimental Parade of the SLSC 79th Anniversary. The parade was commanded by the Commanding Officer of 10 SLSC Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel H.M.B.M.B Herath.

The anniversary arrangements meanwhile added significance to the sports achievements of SLSC troops in the previous year and recognized their contribution to the growth of their Regiment by awarding trophies. The typical All Rank fellowship lunch at the premises afterwards set the stage ready to select the best unit. Amid applause, 10 SLSC was adjudged the best unit and carried away the trophy, out of all 11 units of the SLSC.

The Colonel Commandant, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks representing all the SLSC establishments took part in the day's milestone anniversary projects. Later in the evening, a customary Dinner Night with the participation of 200 officers got underway at the newly-established SLSC Officers’ Mess.

The Sri Lanka Signals Corps (SL Signals), a combat support Corps of the Sri Lanka Army is responsible for providing military communications, information technology and electronic warfare support. The corps is made up of ten regular regiments and one volunteer (reserve) regiment. It is responsible for installing, maintaining and operating all types of telecommunications equipment and information systems of the Army.
