The outgoing Major General G.D Sooriyabandara, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 59 Division on Tuesday (4) during a formal farewell ceremony, at the 59 Division Headquarters premises was saluted in accordance with military traditions.
A Guard Turnout at the entrance on his arrival at the Headquarters 59 Division, saluted him before he was invited to receive the salute in the Guard of Honour, presented at the 59 Division parade square.
During the formal troop address, he thanked all ranks for the support they extended during their tenure and urged them to cooperate with the incoming GOC in the same manner while safeguarding the reputation of the organization. Group photographs and refreshments brought the simple ceremony to an end.
Afterwards, the 59 Division awarded a souvenir to him on behalf of all ranks in the 59 Division.
Brigade Commanders, Commanding Offices, Senior Staff Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.
