Sri Lanka Army football players, Lance Corporal M.A.A Rahumaan of 8 Sri Lanka National Guard, Private M.J.R Mohammed of 2 (v) Gajaba Regiment and Private S.D Jayasekara of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps were among members of the Sri Lanka National Football team who were invited to undergo a training session in Qatar.
All those three players led by Major H Rathnayake of Sri Lanka Light Infantry are expected to participate in the forthcoming South Asia Football Tournament, together with other team mates in the National Football team.
Football in the Army received a stimulus after Corona epidemic due to the sustained efforts of the Army Football Committee, chaired by Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku in the most recent past resulting in the selection of those three footballers for the National Football team. Those three players in the past six months underwent several training programmes under the directions of Brigadier Upul Kodithuwakku and football coaches.
