Araly Point Remembers Fallen Military Veterans

The 30th death anniversary commemoration of Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and several other military War Heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country took place on Monday (08) at the Araly point monument in Jaffna. Organized by the 51 Division, Major General Sanjeewa Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division participated at the ceremony as the Chief Guest with several senior officers, including Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Commodore K.K.I.U Kasiwaththa, the Deputy Area Commander for Northern Province, Wing Commander B.P Widanapathirana the Second in Commander of Air Force Base - Palaly and a few others.

Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, one of the finest warriors ever-produced by the Army in our contemporary history, fell silent on 08 August 1992, along with a few more fellow military veterans and soldiers, like Major General Wijaya Wimalarathne, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Colonel H.P Stephen, Colonel Y.N Palipana, Colonel G.H Ariyarathne, Lieutenant Colonel Nalin de Alwis, Lieutenant Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, Lieutenant Commander C.B Wijepura and Corporal W.J Wickramarathne while they were proceeding for a military assignment in Araly, Jaffna.

Floral wreath - laying and heralding the Last Post brought the day’s commemorative event to an end. A gathering of grateful Officers, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Navy and Air Force Officers participated as representatives in the solemn ceremony.
