Jaffna Donor Appreciates Army Initiatives & Sponsors Erection of New House to Family in Chandrapuram

Broadening its community service scope further, 4 and 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 523 Brigade of the 52 Division under the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) through their engineering and technical skills and manpower erected one more new house for a deserving low-income group family in Chandrapuram, Chavakachcheri, thanks to the financial support, extended to the SFHQ-J by Mr V. Manoharan of ‘Sathya Sri’ Organization in the Jaffna peninsula.

After the miserable plight of the beneficiaries was brought to the notice of Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, joint efforts were made to find a sponsor for this worthy cause by the Commander, SF-Jaffna and the General Officer Commanding, 52 Division with the support of the 523 Brigade Commander.

With sponsorship provided, the construction of the new house to Mrs Nagamani Saraswathy and her family was brought to completion under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, Major General Sanjeewa Fernando within a matter of few weeks on the guidelines given by the Jaffna Commander. Absence of cost for engineering and manpower because of Army troops enabled the gift of essentials too to the family.

On Friday (22), Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna as the Chief Guest amid religious rites and rituals, together with the sponsoring representatives, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, 523 Brigade Commander and next of kin of the beneficiary warmed the new house after cutting a ribbon and handed over the house keys to the family.

During the brief ceremony, dry ration packs and essential household items for the new house were also donated by the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna along with a stock of stationeries, needed for studies of those school students in the family. Brief Hindu religious blessings preceded before the auspicious warming.

General Officer Commanding of 52 Division, Brigadier General Staff of Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Government Officials, beneficiaries and their family members and troops who built the new house were also present at the inaugural occasion.
