More than 80 dry ration packs, each worth Rs 5000/= were freely distributed among low-income group families, resident in Unnachchi and Kurukkalmadam areas in Batticaloa by 231 Brigade troops, thanks to the sponsorship extended by an overseas-based expatriate on Friday (16).
The project, initiated by Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Commander, 231 Brigade was actively supported by both Officers and Other Ranks of 4 Gemunu Watch (GW) and 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops serving the areas.
The coordination with the sponsoring expatriate was done by Mr Sisira Kumara, People’s Bank Area Manager, Batticaloa in response to a request of the 231 Brigade Commander. The beneficiaries were selected in consultation with respective Grama Seva officials and other state officials in respective areas.
Each relief pack, consisted of rice, dhal, soya meat, flour, cereals, spices, dried fish, etc was delivered to their door step by the troops.
Brigadier Shewanth Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Commander, 231 Brigade, Civil Affairs Officer 23 Division, Commanding Officer, 4 Gemunu Watch, Commanding Officer 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Officers and Other Ranks also attended the arrangement.
