6 SLAC Troops Reap Maiden Paddy Harvest

6 Sri Lanka Armourd Corps (SLAC) troops of the 223 Brigade under the 22 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) who using organic fertilizer sowed 1.5 acre patch of abandoned paddy fields in Mailawewa area some three months ago succeeded in reaping a harvest of 1750 kg of paddy during a simple ceremony on Saturday (16).

The impressive green agriculture programme that coincided with the government’s green agriculture policy began the cultivation in April this year after selecting this patch of land. The project got to a start on the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Major General Sanath Aluvihare and the 223 Brigade Commander.

Major General Priyantha Jayawardana, Commander, Security Forces - East gave his blessings to the project and encouraged the troops for continued cultivation process.

On the harvesting day (16), the traditional ceremony observed rites and rituals, generally performed on such occasions and 6 SLAC troops began reaping the maiden harvest, grown with the use of green fertilizer, most of which were prepared by troops themselves.

Commander, 223 Brigade, Commanding Officer of 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Civil Affairs Officer of the 223 Brigade and Officers and Other Ranks of 6 SLAC participated in the harvesting ceremony.
