One more phase for grooming the Green Soldier in the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) compound received a boost when the Lions Club 306-C1 offered a large consignment of rainforest saplings that could be planted inside the camp premises.
Impressed with the SLAVF’s attempt to make the premises green with cultivations as per guidelines given by Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commandant, SLAVF, District Governor Mr. Gamini Kumarasinghe, symbolically handed over those endemic fruit saplings to the Commandant SLAVF on Friday (8).
The concept was implemented with a view to restoring the ecosystem of the entire establishment while simultaneously transforming the soldiers to be conscious of green gardening in order to make the SLAVF premises a model green camp.
The SLAVF embarked on this third phase of the concept receiving rainforest saplings of Jack, Rambutan, Ceylon Olive (Weralu), Mangosteen and Mango would expand their project in order to achieve the concept.
Project Chairman Major (Retd) L.T Samarathunga, Former District Governor Lion Mr. Amal Pussellage, Senior officers, officers, Other Ranks of SLAVF and the members of the Lions Clubs District 306C1 participated in the event.
