Commander Receives Blessings of Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweli Seya & Sacred Places

The 24th Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and his entourage who paid obeisance to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy on Saturday (11) proceeded to reach Anuradhapura sacred city after a couple of hours.

After making customary offerings to the Maha Sangha, including the Chief Incumbent for 'Atamasthana' and Chief Sanga Nayaka of the North and Central Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasabhidana Nayake Thero, Chief incumbent of Ruwanweli Mahaseya Ven Pallegama Sirisumana Rathanapala Hemarathna Nayake Thereo and the Chief incumbent of Mirisawetiya Ven Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilake Thero, observances were made separately.

Offerings were then made by the Army Chief, his spouse and family members to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Ruwanweli Maha Seya and the Mirisawetiya Dagoba where brief orations (anushasana) were delivered by members of the Maha Sangha invoking blessings on the new office of the Commander of the Army.

Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, family members, senior Officers including Major General Chandana Wickramasingha, Military Secretary attended those religious programmes.
