HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa this morning (31) handed over the letter of appointment to General Shavendra Silva as the new Chief of Defence Staff, effective from 1st June 2022.
General Shavendra Silva has been serving as the acting Chief of Defence Staff cum the Commander of the Army to-date. He also relinquishes his office as 23rd Commander of the Army on Tuesday (31).
