'Army Commander's Challenge Trophy - 2022' Tournament Attracts 25 Northern Football Teams

A total of 25 football teams, comprised of about 260 players in the North region joined the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu-organized 'Army Commander's Challenge Trophy - 2022' football tournament that began on 22 January and the semi-finals were played on 27 February at Kllinochchi Public ground where Kilinochchi St Mary's team and Kilinochchi Uthayasooria team qualified to vie in the finals, scheduled to be held shortly.

The tournament, designed to promote football as a sport in the North and sentiments of goodwill and reconciliation between the military and the civilians was organized by Major General Priyantha Jayawardane, General Officer, Commanding 57 Division as per guidelines given by Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces- Mullaittivu.

The preliminary round matches started on January 22nd from the Jaffna province and the semi-final match was played on Sunday (27). After competitive rounds, the final match between above-mentioned two teams is scheduled to be held in the near future.

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander Security Forces- Mulaittivu, General Officers Commanding of 57,59,64,66 Divisions, Senior Officers, Other Ranks and sports lovers witnessed the semi-final match at Kilinochchi Public ground.
