4 VIR Launches 'Army with a Heart' Community Projects

Troops of the 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), headquartered in Chavakachcheri under the 523 Brigade of the 52 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna showing their generosity and 'good heart' launched several welfare projects on 26 February at the Battalion Headquarters premises with sponsorship received from the Dambulla Traders Association and others.

The first event saw twenty deserving pregnant women in Chavakachcheri area were given baby items, fresh vegetable and dry ration packs, each worth more than Rs 7000.00 after inviting them to the camp with the help of respective Grama Seva officials.

Likewise, a student who is doing extremely well in studies at Chandramalesha School at Madduvil was given a scholarship to the value of Rs. 50,000, sponsored by one Mr Ruwan Rathnayake, resident in Japan.

On the same day, the newly-constructed Civil Staff accommodation building inside the camp was also opened and vested it with Civil Staffers working in the camp.

At the invitation of Major H.G.S Gallage, Commanding Officer 4 VIR, Major General Samantha Wickramasena, General Officer Commanding 52 Division graced those events as the chief guest.

Brigadier Nissanka Samaradiwakara, Commander 523 Brigade, senior officers, officers and Other Ranks also participated in the project.
