The University of Colombo (UoC), Alumni Association of the Tourism course at the University of Colombo and students at Post Graduate Diploma (Masters) in Tourism Economics and Hotel Management in a rare gesture, jointly felicitated Brigadier Lalith Hewa, Chief Executive Officer at Laya Safari Hotel at Yala, Palatupana, managed by the Army ‘Laya’ chain.
The recent felicitation at the UoC recognized Brigadier Jayasinghe’s contribution to the International Tourism Leaders’ Summit (ITLS) and the International Tourism Research Conference (ITRC) since their inception and his continued commitment to the tourism industry and sustained efforts to popularize tourism both at national and international levels. The event also congratulated him on his most recent promotion to the rank of Brigadier.
Professor Suranga Silva, Department of Economics (DoE) attributing the ceremony to be one of the firsts of this nature on behalf of an alumnus who brought fame to the UoC commended his outstanding and dedication to the promotion of worldwide tourism as well as to the Sri Lanka Army as a soldier of the highest standards.
Towards the end of the felicitation ceremony, lecturers at the UoC added memories to the occasion and awarded a special memento to Brigadier Lalith Hewa in recognition of his services. A gathering of about 100 attendees including Prof. W. Wimalarathana Thero, The Head Department of Economics, University of Colombo and The Academic Advisor of Tourism Leaders' Summit and International Tourism Research Conference and past UoC students took part in the felicitation, adhering to health guidelines. bridge media | nike
