SLMA Chefs & Stewards Learn More about Food Preparation after Opening of Refurbished Cookhouse

On a directive made by the Commander of the Army, the cookhouse of the Officer Cadets’ Mess at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in Diyatalawa was recently equipped with most modern kitchen utensil and equipment to the value of Rs 8 million while simultaneously exposing the kitchen staff to learn more about those new kitchenware and preparation of quality food varieties that could raise health standards of the trainees at the SLMA.

At the request of the SLMA, Mr. Kirshantha Victor, Marketing Director of Bently Company Ltd, Mr. Sudusinghe Chandrasena, Executive Hospitality Consultant and Mr Ravi Masakorala, Executive Hospitality Consultant in parallel with the opening of the cookhouse on Tuesday (2) after refurbishment conducted theoretical and practical sessions on the use of those utensils and quality preparation of food varieties, food hygiene and food security during a workshop that went on for a few hours, attended by 76 chefs and stewards working in the SLMA. To coincide with the '‘Healthy Army – Healthy Nation’ project of the Colombo Army Hospital, arrangements are being finalized on the directions of the Army Chief to get the best of the best facilities to All Ranks in the Army serving across the country.

The event organized on the guidelines given by Major General Krishantha Gnanaratne, Commandant, SLMA saw Brigadier Anil Peiris, Deputy Commandant, SLMA attending the inauguration of the workshop with hospitality staff at the SLMA.
