UK-based International Relief and Development Agency, 'Muslim Aid Sri Lanka', dedicated to serve Sri Lankans, regardless of their race, religion, gender or political opinion this morning (9) after meeting General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at the Army HQ handed over 500 hygiene packs, worth of Rs 1 million to be distributed in quarantine centers , especially targeting women in quarantine.
The stock consisted of 500 Personal Protective Equipment & hygienic kits, laundry soap bars, toilet soap bars, toothpaste tubes, toothbrush packets, washing powder, sanitary pads, hand towels and hand sanitizer bottles. A representative 4-member group of the local branch of the ' Muslim Aid Sri Lanka', including Messrs A.C. Faizer Khan, Country Director, M.I. Izzahuak, Procurement & Logistics Officer, M.H.M. Ameer, Programme Manager and M. Fahim Iqbal, Fund-raising Officer during the brief meeting with General Shavendra Silva delivered a symbolic pack to him.
General Shavendra Silva highlighting the importance of the gesture commended the organization for its thoughtfulness and donation of those sanitary needs as it also symbolizes the community responsibility, ethnic harmony and goodwill at a time the country is faced with a global pandemic.
'Muslim Aid Sri Lanka' has been responding to major emergencies in the country, supporting sustainable economic empowerment, education support, disaster risk reduction, ; water and sanitation, health (WASH) and nutrition, housing and infrastructure, building trust among communities and social cohesion. The Sri Lanka Country Office was set up in May 2005, in the aftermath of the Tsunami 2004, to primarily address tsunami relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation work, and in 2008 it was elevated with a country office.
