In less than a day, Army Engineer troops responding swiftly to a Presidential directive inaugurated the preparatory work for complete renovation and construction of the playground at Rathabalagama Primary School in Hambegamuwa area on Sunday (31) on the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
His Excellency, the President during one more of his ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandara’ programme at Hambegamuwa on Saturday (30) entrusted the above task to the Sri Lanka Army in response to a request made by students, parents and teachers since it has remained a long-felt need for the school. Keeping full faith in the competence of the Army, HE the President instructed the Officers present there to undertake the task and fulfill those aspirations.
Accordingly, on the instructions of the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, the Chief Field Engineer Major General Nihal Amarasekara directed his troops to commence work on the following day (31) itself in less than 10 hours after the request was made by HE the President.
