SLLI Regimental HQ's House Construction for Soldiers Continues Unabated

Continuing the Sri Lanka Light Infantry's (SLLI) landmark project for construction of houses for family members of fallen SLLI War Heroes injured ones and for those still serving, the SLLI vested three more houses in beneficiaries a few days ago during separate warming ceremonies.

Major General Wasantha Abrew, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI and Commander, Security Forces-West as the Chief Guest was in Hemmathagama on Friday (15) to warm the house, built for the widowed family of late War Hero, Lance Corporal K.R.K Kalwana. The construction of the new house was carried out by 10 SLLI troops within few weeks at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs. The erection of this new home by troops was closely coordinated and supervised by the Commanding Officer, 10 SLLI.

One more new house, built for another deserving SLLI soldier at a cost of about Rs 1.4 m in Nawagaththegama area was warmed and formally vested in the beneficiary amid religious observances, rites and rituals on Tuesday (19). The three-roomed house, constructed by 17 SLLI troops was opened by Major General Channa Weerasooriya as the Chief Guest to mark the opening.

Similarly, 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops as a symbol of recognition and heroism, depicted by one of their Sergeants in the battlefield before May 2009 in Talawa volunteered to erect a new home. It cost the SLLI some Rs 1.5 m and was ceremonially warmed by Major General Channa Weerasooriya, as the day's Chief Guest.
