Major General Harendra Ranasinghe of Special Forces Regiment assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding of the 56 Division under the Security Force HQ-Wanni, amid religious blessings at the Headquarters in Kokeliya, Vavuniya on Monday (7).
The newly-appointed GOC of the 56 Division was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers on arrival at the premises and honoured in a Guard Turnout in keeping with military traditions. Afterwards, as members of the Maha Sangha commenced ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting, Major General Harendra Ranasingha placed his signature in a formal document to signify the acceptance of his assumption of new office in the presence of a few Senior Officers.
Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, prior to this new appointment served as the Director General Operations at the Army Headquarters. Planting of a sapling in the compound as a symbol of memory and an inaugural address to the Officers, and Other Ranks after refreshments culminated the day’s proceedings.
Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and staffers in the Division were present at the occasion.
