US Gifts More De-mining Accessories to the Army

Embassy of the United States of America under its defence co-operation programme gifted a stock of de-mining equipment and accessories to the de-miners of the Sri Lanka Army on Tuesday (24).

The stock, comprised of 500 helmets, 440 body armours, 50 medical packs, 4 GIS mapping software units, 10 memory cards and 10 cameras, is an incentive given to the Sri Lanka Army for further promotion of its continuous de-mining assignments in the north.

A brief ceremony at the Sri Lanka Army De-mining Unit of the Mattegoda Engineering Brigade this morning (24), saw the stock formally handed over to the Chief Field Engineer, Major General Lasantha Wickramasuriya by two US Embassy officials, Lieutenant David Chesson, US Navy of the US Embassy in Sri Lanka along with Mr Chanaka Fernando.

Sri Lanka Army de-miners in the past few years have done a commendable job in the field of de-mining, together with a few other INGOs.

The official handing over ceremony was attended by Commander, Engineer Brigade and several senior officers.
