The newly-launched vocational training programme for potential Army pensioners, came into being as a novel conceptual direction of the Commander of the Army, successfully completed its one-year long training for 59 Army personnel on 24 January 2015.
These training courses, meant for Army personnel going on retirement after 22 years of service are eligible to receive vocational training in specially-designed vocational courses, like Rubber product manufacturing, Science of laying power cables (domestic), Aluminum fabricating process, Building construction, Driving, etc, conducted by Kalaoya Training School for Non-Commissioned Officers jointly with the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority of the Government.
59 Army personnel including 5 members of the civil staff completed above courses and received their certificates of proficiency during a brief ceremony, attended by Commandant, Brigadier K.D.C.G.J Thilakaratne, Mr C.P Wijedasa, Head, Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority, Mr W.B.S Amarasinghe, Principal, Sagara Driving School, Mr W. Deepthi Weerasinghe, Chief Instructor, Course Instructors and a couple of other invitees.
