Sri Lanka Army funds were used to buy stocks of agricultural and livestock instruments and goats for farming villagers in Vikumpura, Mannar areas of the 542 Brigade under the 54 Division of the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) which were distributed free of charge on Thursday (1) as one more community-oriented project of the SFHQ-W.
Under the programme, Farmers’ Society at Vikumpura village received 2 hand tractors, needed for their paddy cultivation, together with a stock of mammoties, spades, shovels and other supportive tools, etc.
A herd of 20 goats were also distributed among 10 families at the same occasion as part of the programme on the guidance of Brigadier M.M.S Perera, Brigade Commander, 542 Brigade.
Funds for accessories and animals were supplied by the Army itself for the welfare of the Vikumpura villagers, considering the requirements of those farmer villagers.
Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Major General K.M.U Wijerathna, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 54 Division, 542 Brigade Commander, senior officers, other ranks and a large number of civilians from Vikumpura were associated with the donating project.
