The three-day long Army ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ that provided the thrills and spills at Nawalapitiya, drew to a close on Sunday (31) with a massive crowd witnessing the event.
Hon Governor for Central Province Mr Tikiri Kobbekaduwa attended the inauguration of the day’s show as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Army.
Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff on behalf of the Commander of the Army, welcomed the Chief Guest on arrival for the inauguration.
The year’s second provincial ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ that showcases the exceptional assortment of exclusive skills of Army personnel was opened at Gampola - Nawalapitiya Jayathilake ground on Friday (29) afternoon by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake.
On the second day (30) the mega spectacle with the participation of more than 4000 troops was opened by Hon Minister of Sports, Mr Mahindananda Aluthgamage at the invitation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake. On Thursday (28) a special Tattoo was staged for the benefit of school students and family members of disable War Heroes.
The Army Tattoo will next be staged at Moneragala and Badulla towards the end of the month.
The Army ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ generally highlights undisputed skills of Army personnel, including conduct of mock simulation attacks and rescue of hostages, Army ceremonial features, free fall parachute jumps, dog shows, demonstration of the Bailey bridge construction, assembling of artillery guns and jeeps, stunt riding displays, talents of disable War Heroes, Ranabera and Bugle displays, physical training and fire work displays, drill displays, etc, perhaps never witnessed by those people thronging there.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Adjutant General, Major General Mano Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters, Central and several senior officers were present on all three days.
