First Batch of Tamil Woman Recruits from East Passed Out

The first batch of 36 Tamil woman recruits of the Sri Lanka Army from the East after completion of their 4 month long training at 5 (v) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC), passed out on Saturday (23) during a military ceremony at the 22 Division Headquarters PT ground.
 
Brigadier R Shanmuganathan, Brigadier Army Quartering of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E attended the passing out parade.
 
In addition to their military training, these woman recruits received working knowledge in Sinhala and English, IT and self employment. During the training period, a number of field visits, including ones to the south, enabled them to learn more about the country. All those recruits are from Trincomalee (16), Batticaloa (15) and Ampara (5) Districts.
 
Soon after the formalities, 8 scooters were distributed among selected recruits by Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E, special guest for the occasion as incentives for them to report for work from their places of residence.
 
Special trophies were awarded to the recruits who did well in the training under categories such as Best Platoon Commander, Best Platoon Sergeant, Best Section Commander, Best Physically Fit Recruit, Best Outstanding Performances, etc.
 
A large gathering of parents, next of kin, 22 Division General Officer Commanding, tri-service senior officers, senior Police officers and religious leaders watched the day’s proceedings.
