More than 6000 packets of dry rations as well as 5 liter water bottles and water tanks, supplied by Ven Dr Medagoda Abhayatissa Nayaka Thero, were recently delivered to drought-hit civilians, resident in the 68 Division area of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT).
Civilians living in Sudandipuram and Valluwarnapuram under Puthukudiyiruppu Divisional Secretariat received those dry rations and drinking water under this humanitarian project.
In addition, Army bowsers filled up the new water tanks with water after placing them in different locations of worst-hit areas after the distribution. Ven Hedigalle Wimalasara Thero, Senior Officers of 68 Division and several laymen from Colombo, took part in the distribution.
Meanwhile, on the directions of Major General Jagath Dias, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, the officers serving the 683 Brigade went on distributing more than 1000 five litre water bottles, among the worst-affected in Sundipuram and Wallawarnapuram Gramaseva sectors on August 16.
In the meantime, another arrangement, made jointly by the 683 Brigade with Rev. Tawarasa Jesudas of the Mungilaru Catholic Church, distributed more than 500 water bottles of 5 litres among civilians, resident in the Udayarkattu and Mungilaru Gramaseva sectors. Around the same time on August 18, Army troops placed several water tanks at public places and filled them with drinking water.
