A friendly cricket tournament, organized by the Sports Committee of the Army Directorate of Civil Administration, got underway on Tuesday (29) at Kolonnawa Municipal playground in the presence of a large gathering.
Three teams Super Elevens, Royal Challengers and Red Bulls of the Directorate of Civil Administration vied in the tournament, pushing Red Bulls and Royal Challengers to be final contenders.
After a close tussle, Red Bulls however clinched the championship beating its rival, Royal Challengers amidst applause and revelry.
Mr Manoj Yalage of the Red Bulls became the Man of the Series. Lance Bombardier D.A.D.P.M Wimalaratne of Royal Challengers and Mr S. Chaminda Appuhamy of the Red Bulls were rated as Best Batsman and Best Bowler respectively. All of them received awards.
Mr Gamini Mahagamage, Director, Army Directorate of Civil Administration and Mr W.D.R Weerasundara, Director, Directorate of Finance watched the tournament as Chief Guests, together with Mrs S. Udayakumari Mahagamage, Mr Anurudda Nayake Bandara, Mr S.A Rupasinghe of the Directorate of Civil Administration and a large crowd of members of the civil staff in the Army.
The event got underway after recital of the national anthem and all participants were given merit awards.
