The inaugural session of training for Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) enlisted professionals was held at Volunteer Force Training School premises at Diyatalawa on July (22).
Major General S.W.L Daulagala Commandant, SLAVF headed the event as the Chief Guest, in the company of Deputy Commandant Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe, Principal Staff Officer Brigadier W.A.N.M Weerasinghe, Commandant, SLAVF Training School, Colonel Senarath Kohona and other Officers.
Interviews for enlisting professionals to the Volunteer Reserve at Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force under the ‘Api Army’ project was conducted on 24, 25 June, 03 and 11 July, 2014 at Army Headquarters.
1217 Professionals applied for openings in the SLAVF and 484 applicants were called in for the final interview under the first phase at which 267 were qualified and directed for medical examination. However, only 90 professionals were found qualified at the final interviews although 115 professionals were short listed.
The panel of interviewers included Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commandant, SLAVF Major General S.W.L Daulagala, Deputy Commandant Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe, Major General Sumedha Perera, Director General General Staff, Mr S. Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary to Ministry of Defence and two other senior officials representing Ministry of Defence.
A total of 47 professionals representing the fields of medicine, engineering, plantations, veterinary science, agriculture, customs, management, accounting, media, administration, etc thus began their training at the SLAVF Training School in Diyatalawa.
These professionals took the Oath of Allegiance before the Commandant, SLAVF Training School - Diyatalawa Colonel Senarath Kohona as a formal military tradition.
Commandant, SLAVF on arrival at the inauguration as the Chief Guest, inspected the Guard Turn Out and a parade was accorded in his honour. Afterwards, the Commandant addressed the newly joined professionals where he elaborated on their role and the service anticipated by the Army.
A new gymnasium at SLAVF Training School was also opened on the same day.
